- AbstractThe review has analysied the main trends in the study of forest gas resistance in the USSR. The aggravation of the ecological situation in some regions of the country has been caused by excessive concentration of industrial enterprises. Acid gases are the main air pollutants responsible for phytotoxic effect. Physiologo-biochemical investigations are aimed at elucidating the supply, migration and removal of toxicants in/from plants, the mechanism of their effect on assimilation processes, secondary metabolism, reparation and general tree productivity and their synergism. The dynamics of tree resistance in terms of the conditions of tree growth and availability for colonization by diffeent groups of cosumers is used as a basis for monitoring of weakened forests. The ways of enhancement of stand resistance to industrial emissions have been also discussed.
