Abstract
A literature review of the recent wood fuel use and demand in developing countries points towards an increase of the woodfuel crisis in the near future. Planting of trees remains the most important activity to increase the wood supply and restore a disturbed environment. Reforestation can however, be done in many different ways. The production system most frequently encountered for improving life conditions and restore the environment in and around rural societies are: soil conservation system, multipurpose tree production, agroforestry and industrial plantations. By means of a cross disciplinary approach, reforestation should be part of an integrated system to diversitfy land use.
