Assessment of the motion of a potential landslide is one of the most economical disaster-reduction-measures. The author studied the mechanism of long-travelling landslide and also how to decide the coefficient of friction during motion by means of a newly developed high-speed ring shear apparatus and others. Together with those experimental research, the author developed a new computer simulation of the motion of landslide in reference with the already-developed computer simulation of water flow. This simulation is able to express the "softness" of landslide mass as well as the "slipperiness" of the slope. The application of this computer simulation to the Ontake long- travelling landslide reproduced the long and complicate motion of the landslide in computer.
