Abstract
The subalpine coniferous forests located on the border of the Xizang Plateau (Tibet) differ in many aspects from the boreal coniferous forests. They are rich in species of the genera Abies and Picea. A number of various mixed coniferous forests are formed by several species of the genus Abies as well as Picea because of the overlaps of their distributions; The paleohygro- thermophytic flora, elements of lianas and epiphytes and mosses growing on the bark of the trees are extremely important in the sense of community genetics and development. The associations with the same subediphycator layer are combined in a so-called "Circle" which reflects and indicates the microclimate, soil properties, plant compositions and the succession process more obviously than the ediphycator layers. The silvicultural and ecological characteristics and the management strategies of these forests are discussed.
