The presentation is an overview of mechanized forest harvesting in Canada, east of the Rockies, with some reference to coastal British Columbia operations. A brief description of the Canadian forest is followed by a look at the evolution of forest mechanization leading to the current situation, followed by a projection of future systems and machine populations. Environmental concerns as well as ergonomic and safety issues are addressed. Information is given on advanced technologies required for tomorrow's machines.
