457 dens with young foxes on the isle of Ruegen (926 km2) were mapped between 1988 and 1990. Furthermore, 1118 young foxes were trapped in special traps and marked. This provided the basis for a study of the dynamics of fox populations. The trapping of young foxes in traps of the type described here is an effective method of reducing fox populations.
