Eichensterben in Ungarn, ökologische und standortliche Aspekte : Disease/Environment Interactions in Forest Decline. Proceedings of a Workshop of the Working Party Disease/Environment Interactions in Forest Decline IUFRO 7.02.06, Vienna, Austria, March 16-21, 1998
Symptoms of Oak decline in Hungary (Quercus petraea, Quercus robur), i.e. crown thinning, yellowish colour and often small size of the leaves indicate poor water supply. Intensity of oak decline on dry and humid sites is compared. The multiple higher rate in dry stand as well as the decrease of the annual precipitation and in consequence of the soil moisture since the early 1970s support this theory. Outstanding dry was the decade of the 1980s and first half of the 1990s. Turkey oak (Quercus cerris) did not show any signs of damage (even on dry sites), so the rate of turkey oak increased in mixed oak stands. Possibilities of reducingm the rate of oak decline are discussed.
