- AbstractThe purpose of the work was to test the hypothesis that drought and decline of Quercus robur seedlings inoculated with Ophiostoma querci (strains 02 from France, 276 and 88A from Poland) are positively correlated. Two characters, length of wood discoloration and length of reisolation zones, were considered. Discolored wood in the upper and lower portions of the stem, from the inoculation site of stressed plants infected through injection with 276 and 02 strains, was longer and significantly different from irrigated seedlings. In the case of 88A the same association was found in the lower portion of the stem. Also the length of discolored wood in the upper stem section of stressed plants was statistically different from that of irrigated plants inoculated with 276 strain through wounds. On the basis of length of xylem discoloration and reisolation and the relations of discoloration to reisolated and reisolation to number of injected conidia we can say that: (1) the length of xylem discoloration is shorter than the length of reisolation zones; (2) discolored xylem is longer in stressed plants than in irrigated ones, particularly following conidia injection.
