- AbstractThe calculations for dense flow avalanche velocities, the flow-heights and the run-out distances over the whole avalanche path based on the A. VOELLMY-formula and the Swiss-guidenlines (B. Salm et al 1990) modified by G. HAGEN (1986). The value for the turbulent friction is suggested with £ = 1300 m/sec¬. Furthermore according to P. Schaerer (1975) the dry-friction coefficient - in function of the velocity - is assumed ö = 5/v for the starting zone and the avalanche track. Considering ö is a function of the velocity and when ö is determined a constant for the whole runout zone, then the half value of velocity at continuous velocity decrease must be used. This means that ö is not 5/v but 10/v.
