The number of allochthonous mammal species occurring currently in Austria is nine. Kuhl's pipistrelle and striped field mouse have recently expanded their ranges into Austria. The moose has returned to this country after some 900 years on its own. Savi's pipistrelle has been found again in 1985, after approximately 100 years during which it was not recorded. Alpine ibes beaver and lynx have been reintroduced successfully into Austria.
