- AbstractMyxomycetes and Mycetozoa are extraordinary, but not widely known largely microscopic organisms. Some terminological considerations are followed by a short history of research. The complex life cycle including spores, myxoflagellates, plasmodia and fructifications with their particular structures is described in detail. In the chapters "Distribution and Phenology" as well as "Habitats and Substrata" mainly own experiences from Upper Austria are taken into account. Relations to other organisms including humans could only be exemplified. A glossary and a classification ob subclasses, orders, families and genera of myxomycetes should fasciliate a basic overview.
