Forest health is influenced by the soil, physical climate, and its chemical climate. Historically, among the environmental factors, the role of chemical climate has received the least attention. This paper constitutes an annotated chemical atlas of the atmosphere over North America and to a lesser extent Europe. It covers the emissions for sulfur and nitrogen oxides, wet deposition of sulfate, nitrate, and ammonia, airborne concentrations of ozone and sulfate, and the spatial temporal patterns of atmospheric haziness.
