contrary to wide-spread opinion, the red heart of beechwood is not pathogenic, but a felling-age dependent phenomenon. The red colored core is basicially divided into serval zones, which are bordered by dark lines giving boards and veneers a very ornamental appearance. It can be used for parquetry, staircases, furniture and wall panelings. To avoid fading, the wood should be protected by UV-blocking varnish. Unfortunately, it is still a nearly unknown type of wood for most architects and furniture manufactures. Therefore, forestry should invest much more into its marketing.
