Torrential catchments are complex systems. A large number of influential parameters and interdependencies make it difficult do analyse such systems with statistical methods. System Dynamics offers the possibility to model ther interrelation in torrential catchments focused on the ongoing processes. Such models allow to simulate the behaviour of torrential catchments in its temporal course and to study complex reactions like feedbacks or threshold processes. This article presents two examples, one covering the subject of root mass development and another the dynamics of soil water processes on slopes.
