- AbstractEnergy exchange at a snow surface gives radiation amount ranging from 8 to 100 per cent, convection from 0 to 80 per cent, condensation from 0 to 30 per cent. However, in many cases radiation supplies more than half the total heat and in several cases it is the greatest of the three terms. Therefore particular attention to the problem has to be paid and measurements accuracy to be found. Usually, in such a traditional field measurements, many difficulties occur to get information about net energy exchange due to the meteorological influences and factors which ware in a continuously changing along the time. A particular look is given the long-wave balance, in the middle infrared region. This work deals with thermography as an useful tool for snow investigations in particular weather conditions to extract thermal information, in real time and imaging without any instrumental impact with the environmental setting. Such ground experiences, carried out for three different applications has to be seen as first checking of the future possibilities and prospectives for avalanches surveillance, by the means of remote sensing techniques, in the domain of infraret aerial surveys.
