Landscape planning has not been as successful as many environmentalists had hoped when it was launched in 1976. Among the many reasons for this there is a lack of standards on the evaluation of the impact of developments on the natural environment. The influence of landscape planning on the overall landuse planning could be enhanced if there were a set of tools and methods of landscape planning that is supported by all concerned authorities of the laender and the federal government. Within this frame a method to calculate a compensation in money for the impact of developments on the natural environment could be prominent.
