In the upcoming years, commercial forestry and lumber industries will have to face the extraordinary challenges brought about by the economic situation. Therefore, cooperative eneavors will be necessary in order to still make money. The commercial forestry market is stagnant and special strategies must be developed to increase efficiency and cut costs by economizing. Market orientation, tapping market niches and customer service, including specialization, are just as important. In the small privately-owned forests of Austria, the utilization of logging reserves is an additional aspect. Commercial forestry has no other alternative than partnership with the sawmill industries and the other purchasers of round wood.
