Abstract
The use of plants for biological monitoring or effects of air pollution has long been accepted. In the Dutch national monitoring network for air pollution effect intensities on indicator and accumulator plants are measured in connection with measurements of air pollution components and meteorological parameters. Much attention has been paid to optimal standardization of plant handling. The use of indicator and accumulator plants may be a valuable tool to assess the impact of air pollution on vegetation. Some results are given with emphasis on the occurrence of injury on tobacco Bel W3 in relation to O3 concentration levels. The Dutch biomonitoring program creates a basis for pollutant protective measures.
