IDN: 609 Asia accounts for 14 percent of the worldÖs forest cover with more than 60 percent of the worldÖs population. Considering the significance of the forest and associated ecological system, much attention has been paid to this region due to great use of food and energy and severe environmental problems. In forest science, fundamental challenges are coming from population growth, deforestation and expansion of desertification. In this regard, this paper provides some background on the challenges to forest science in Asia and seeks solutions to them in the region.
