Abstract
In the present paper the results are presented of the investigation of changes in the concentrations of water-soluble ammonia nitrogen, 1% K2SO4 solution extracted ammonia nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen which took place in the soil horizon A of the floodplain forest at Lednice na Morave during 42- day incubation trials. Ammonification and nitrification rates after increasing the moisture content of soil samples to 30% and 60% of maximum water capacity (MVK) were calculated on the basis of these changes. In the course of incubation trial great differences in organic nitrogen mineralization were observed between the variants of 30% and 60% MVK. Total nitrogen mineralization (NH4-N+NO3-N) in the soil horizon A was higher by 108% in the soil samples with the moisture content of 60% MVK, in comparison with the moisture content of 30% MVK. NO3-N production made about 90% of the total mineral N at 60% MVK, but only 50% at 30% MVK.
