Abstract
In 1987 and 1988, Ips sexdentatus was controlled in South Moravia, using the Stenoprax pheromone evaporators in traps of Chemika and Schlitzfalle types. The studied species of bark beetle was found to be among the common species of the entomofauna of mature pine stands in the region under study and to have no economic importance. The average catches in one trap ranged from 13 to 22 adults of Ips sexdentatus for the growing season. In the colder years the species has only one generation in South Moravia and the adults swarm late in April and in the first half of May. In the warmer years another generation of the beetles may occur in July and August. The sex ratio of the beetles in the traps was 1:1.28 (females prevailed). Besides the investigated species, the traps caught 36 species of 18 families. Most of the catches were causal, only in 8 species of the families Scolytidae, Cleridae and Cerambycidae was an increased number of individuals caught in several places, which might be ascribed to the attracting substances relaeased from the Stenoprex evaporators.
