Safeguards for conseration and reproduction of a gene pool of original populations of forest woody species are in the CSR extremely urgent. Original populations especially of commercially imortant woody species, above all softwood ones, have been conserved to a linited extent until now. Woody species are at present threatened and damaged by a number of harmful abiotic and biotic factors (industrial pollution), wind-throws and snow-breaks, pest injuries, diseases). In the present paper there are described safeguards which are planned and implemented in the CSR (forest preserves, gene bases, certified seed crop stands, reproduktive plantations, plus-trees, clone archives, seed orchards, certain research areas, forest seed banks, in vitro cultures). Methods of reproduction, current results of works and future prospects are also mentioned in brief.
