- AbstractFrench and German forestry developed from common roots at the time of the Franconian Kingdom and the reign of Charles the Great. During the 18th centuries, a mutually strong influence of scientific and practical French and German forestry can be observed. The good professional and personal relations between foresters from France and Germany were almost completely interrupted in the period between 1914 and 1945. In the early 1950s, the Forestry College of Nancy reinitiated contact to German professional colleagues, which has since lead to close cooperation and so- und friendships. Dr. Jean Parde who, from the beginning intensively championed relations between the nations, is counted among the far-sighted and idealistic French. His life's work receives the comprehensive merit it deserves.
