- AbstractSeveral insect pests which attack standing trees or stacked logs in the moist broad leaf forests are described for the subtropical zone of the eastern Himalaya (Bhutan). A comprehensive description is given for Pseudomeges marmoratus Westw., Lamiinae-Cerambycidae, attacking Castanopsis spp. and Quercus spp., and several stag beetles from the Lucanidae, as Serrognathus tityus Hp. and Neolucanus baladeva Hp. attacking the mentioned host trees. No effective pest management plan has been developed. Pinhole borers of the Scolytidae and Platypodidae family were found in high density, injuring logs. Classified species of ambrosia beetles are also listed. A management plan is described based on temperature factors and timber harvesting operations. No-risk, low-risk and high-risk felling periods for ambrosia beetle attack have been identified. The chir pine defoliator Lebeda nobilis Walker, a tent caterpillar, Lepidoptera-Lasiocampidae of the subtropical conifer zone is described and control methods like insecticide application and controlled-burning are discussed. The most important bark beetles threatening conifer stands in the subtropical and temperate zone and their associates are presented. Ips longifolia Stebb. and Ips schmutzenhoferi Holzschuh, epidemics are described and the most appropriate control possibilities are discussed. The recently developed aggregation pheromone for I. schmutzenhoferi, "Spinuprax", is evaluated.
