We sampled six soils in different distances from a source of metallic pollutants and determined the concentrations of heavy metals and organic C as well as the rate of CO2-production. The data show that the soil respiration depends on the amount of pollutants. A reduced respiration is not necessarily reflected by lowered CO2-production rates but by lowered rate constants of the carbon mineralisation.
