The safety aspects of an investigation of harnesses and techniques for tree climbing are summarised and the merits and disadvantages of sit-belts and harnesses are discussed in relation to working comfort and safety. A rang of drop tests on sit-belts and harnesses, using articulated dummies, is described, and results of fall-arrest force trials are analysed. The influence of future European and International standardisation work is considered.
