Survey of tree health are being carried out in Great Britain and Europe. Those undertaken by the Forestry Commission have not indicated a widespread problem of forest decline in Britain. In some areas, problems have been identified, but these had already been recognised and explanations are available for most. No consistent link between air pollution and forest health has been identified, although various correlations are apparent. Generally, these have suggested that tree health is better in the more polluted parts of Britain than in less polluted areas but a causal relationship is not necessarily involved.
