Abstract
The use of injection as a method in preventing unwanted understory of deciduous trees is described. Adequate dosage at injection with platic wedges and a bolt gun has been studied. Results of field trials show, that 1 tablet per 2.5 cm dbh is an adequate dose and in some cases 1 tablet per 5 cm dbh. Both stumps and trees have been injected. Most of the stumps as well as trees are dead three years after injection. In a methodological study five methods of injecting herbicides were studied. Injection with an axe and an oil can, an axe and tablets, a hollow punch and tablets, a bolt gun and plastic wedges have adequate results. 90-100% of the foliage of aspen (Populus tremula L.) was dead three years after injection. The fifth method studied, an axe and cartridges with MCPA, "Sterzik", only reduced the foliage with 60-70% during the same period. In avoiding suckers after cutting aspen the trees ought to be injected at least three years before cutting.
