In Bavaria, the majority of private co-operative forestry associations (forest owner unions and forest enterprise associations) were founded approximately 30 years. Economic pressure caused by the concentrative processes of the wood processing industry was the reason for such action. In the course of the last decades, operational responsibilities were steadily expanded and the demands society, the economy and the industry made on the forests and their owners became increasingly complex. Apart from the professional marketing of forest products, the further education of forest owners is high on the list of top priorities. The work entailed in defining forest and hunting policies is under considerable growth. A private co-operative forestry association is above all a service enterprise, enabling the association to develop their financial basis. Marketing further forest products such as wood for thermal utilization and market-compliant logistics are representative of the new challenges in forestry.
