The annual accident statistics unfortunately reconfirm that skilled forest laborers still maintain a peak position in refernce to accident frequency and in comparison with other professions. Upon concluding their apprenticeship, the young skilled forest laborers are well aware of working procedures and versed in accident prevention, including work safety measures and ergonomics. However, after a short period of time, work habits are practiced that do not conform to safety standards. Suitable efforts of fundamentally improving labor safety standards have shown little effect. Education and motivation alone are obviously insufficient means of improving safety awareness. Therefore, labor safety must assume high priority in enterprise objectives, and if necessary, be forcibly implemented.
