Global radiation, scattered at the crowns of trees, is spectrally analyzed to monitor and classify forest decline. For this purpose the relative leaf area index is evaluated by means of a self-made six-channel-radiometer. Results for Pinus sylvestris and Picea abies are presented to demonstrate the reliability of the method.
