- AbstractIn the present study we were able to identify polymorphic sequences of the oak chloroplast DNA which probably distinguish between the two species Quercus robur and Quercus petraea. This results, however, must tested on a larger scale of sample material. The detected polymorphic region is probably of larger size since RFLPs were found with more than one restriction enzyme with the same DNa probe (p6). The cloning of this part of cpDNA of the oak is in progress. The results obtained so far indicate the probable presence of repetitive sequences in our HTF island library, which await further analysis. We established a HTF island library which presumably contains G/C rich sequences of the oak genome. The screening of this DNA library for the presence of repetitive elements possibly enables us to find sequences which fulfil the criteria of a fingerprint probe. The screening of the library and the subsequent analysis of the selected sequences are also in progress.
