- AbstractThe levels of aluminium, iron, zinc and cadmiun in fine roots and needles of Pinus sylvestris were compared in urban and rural areas in Hyvinkaeae, South Finland, at the beginning and end of the summer. The metals were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The metal levels in the roots were 2-5 times as high as those in the needles, except in the case of zinc. The contents of all the metals except cadmium were lower in June than in August. The metal levels in the needles were higher in the urban than in the rural area, but a corresponding difference was not evident in the roots.
