In order to be able to judge as to the justifiability of forest road construction, the influence of terrain slope and excavation material cathegory on manual and machine work quantity and on costs (total and of individual construction phases) has been established in forest road construction. The influence of the location of the material intended for compaction of the upper layer and the influence of the drainage method on construction costs are presented. A comparison between construction costs of 1 km of a forest road and the average selling price of timber has been made.
