- AbstractSerious, unforsenable phenomena such as mud-flow and debris-flow in mountain watercourses in Friuli-Veneza Giulia can be originated by the following elements: Bad geotechnical and geomorphological conditions, adverse weather conditions, unfavourable hydrogeological ground characteristics. The most significant data and measures regarding mud-flow and debris-flow have been taken without instruments. They are the following: - hydrometric height at the front: 5-8 meters; - total length of flow: 150-200 meters; - speed: 4-5 minutes per second; - specific weight: 1700-1800 kilos per square meter (in debris-flows); - water content: 40-60% (in debris-flows); - specific weight: 2000-2200 kilos per square meter (in mud-flows); - water content: 30-40% (in mud-flows); - maximum volume of boulders carried: from 70-100 up to 125 cubic meters. Mud masses and debris masses overflow from the levees at the drainage trench of the fan discontinuously during the flow.
