A total of 20 selected Douglas fir provenances are being progeny tested in field experiments in the Latvian SSR. At 2, 4, 7 and 10 years the offsprings have been assessed and analysed as to survival, height growth and frost hardiness. Highly significant provenance variation in increment parameters has been observed, and there is a good correlation with the dispersal analysis data (F=17,65-48,02), in this respect. The provenances obtained from preselected areas within the natural range of the species seen to be the most promising, as do the progeny of local adapted origins.
