In the paper a mathematical algorithm for determining the rate of the natural decrease of tree number in pine stands is presented. The rate of this process has been subjected to the age, to the number of developmental category (site quality) and to the density of trees in the stand. The algorithm makes the integral part of the MDI-1 growth model.
