The influence of browsing by game on the regeneration in rich deciduous forests in Thuringia was examined. Tree species abundance as well as number of stems per unit area are independent of browsing by game but influenced by the quantity of lieght available. The browsing intensity directly affects the height growth. The interspecific competition is modified because game prefers some tree species over others. Silvicultural guidelines ans goals in hunting have to be defined clearly in order to evaluate the influence of browsing by game on the distribution and abundance of tree species.
