Market economies are able to cope with shortages better than centralized planning economies. Price systems in a market economy signalize shortages most effectively. Missing prices for environmental goods lead to suboptimal allocations processes. Ecological modifications of existing tax systems are most important and overdue. Consumption of natural resources needs higher prices telling the "ecological truth". Higher tax income of the state from ecological taxes shall be used for a reduction of overall working costs in the society. New ecological taxes shall be introduced step by step in order to prevent adaptation problems of complex economic systems. Forestry is likely to benefit from ecological tax reforms though reductions of air pollution, comparative advantages of energy extensive products from renewable resources and reduction of unemployment in rural regions.
