- AbstractFrom September 16th to October 3rd 1995 the "Forstverein fuer Nordrhein- Westfalen" visited in the Adirondack Region (NY, USA) "Boeselager Forestry" and the "Adirondack Ecological Center", in the Alleghenies experimental stands of the "New York State University in Syracuse" and in Ontario "Haliburton Forest" and the "Algonquin Provincial Park". From the beginning to the exciting peak of the Indian summer the members of the group saw different forests of the Northern Hardwood Region and how they are managed. The group got information about the silvicultural methods in uneven aged and even aged stands and was impressed, how carefully the American and Canadian foresters control their methods by experimental plots. Beyond that it was very interesting to see, how the viewpoints of silviculture, recreation and protection of nature are combined in the management of the forests, mainly in Haliburton and in the Algonquin Park. The visitors were impressed by the great hospitability of the American and Canadian foresters and biologists, who informed the group in the forests and organized the local details of the excurdion.
