- AbstractCaused by a great number of artifical introduced plants, there is an early closeness which results in natural intraspecific light competition. The silviculturist used light competition to get long and straight stems without knots. Under these circumstances the expenditure for wage and material was very high. The intensified use of natural regeneration of pioneer trees in the phase of culture and young stands will be a way to reduce this expenditure and allows a biological rationalization. The possibilities and limits of this silvicultural management are not exactly known. But it is sure that much more natural regeneration of pionieer trees can be tolerated than it is done until today. At several research and sample plots where the stand structure is periodically documented since 1986 the silvicultural management for the different age classes - including the natural regeneration of pioneer trees - are explained. The growth of beech and oak is shown under the influence of naturally seeded pioneer trees. First, preliminary results show that for the tending of young growth and of young stands a selective treatment with special consideration of the best trees can be adiviced. This procedure integrates an early selection of future-tree- aspirants. The trees which obviously oppress future-tree-aspirants will be cracked or gridlet.
