The history of forest research in Eberswalde is presented. On Apris, 12th 1871 the "Hauptstation fuer das forstliche Versuchswesen in Preussen" was founded initiated especially by Otto v. Hagen. The first head of the Research Station was B. Danckelmann until the turn of the century. With substantial participation of A. Schwappach an extensive network of forest experiment plots was established. From 1927 to 1945 E. Wiedemann was head of the Forest Research Station which became renamed "Preussische Forstliche Versuchsanstalt fuer Waldwirtschaft" in the meantime. With the foundation of the "Akademie der Landwirtschaftswissenschaften" zu Berlin in 1952 the "Institut fuerForstwissenschaften Eberswalde" was formed. Since 1992 the "Forstliche Forschungsanstalt Eberswalde e.V." continues the tradition of the Prussian Forest Research Station and the Institute of Forest Science.
