- AbstractThe 56ha wide Larix forest "Lindulowo" is today one of the most important parts of the Russian national park "Karelische Landenge" near St. Petersburg. All trees are nearly 40m high, and the average stem volume reaches 3m3. In the late 18th century Larix sibirica Ledeb. had been planted (550 trees/hectar, 4,3 x 4,3m) under the guidance of the German forest officer Ferdinand Fockel. Depending on the national belonging of the area Russian and Finnish foresters founded dearby several stands with Larix sibirica Ledeb., Larix europaea DC and Larix davurica Trautv. until 1927. In the following decades the rarely managed Larix stands have been damaged several times by severe storms. Today Lindulowo is used for scientific investigations and for forestry excursions from all over the world.
