Abstract
The aim of this work has been to describe variations between plots within stands for different variables. Prior to a systematic sample plot inventory in a stand it is then possible, based on the results of the present work, to estimate the variations, and accordingly increase the efficiency of the inventory with respect to number of sample plots and accuracy. Variations between plots within stands, expressed by standard deviations and coefficients of variation, are studied for different groups of stands. The mean standard deviation for volume in 136 stands in cutting class IV-V is 66.6 Kubikmeter/ha, while the corresponding coefficient of variation is 49.9%. This level of variation is probably somewhat higher than average for the country. This is also the case for the other variables which are studied. Regression functions to estimate the standard deviation based on different stand attributes, are also developed. The R hoch 2 of the regression functions are relatively low. The functions for volume are the best ones with R hoch 2 near 0.7.
