- AbstractA truck transportation system in forestry is the combination of truck equipment and the material which is supposed to be transported. There exist a significant interconnection between the standard of the road network and the type of the truck transportation systems which are supposed to be used on that particular road network. Truck transportation systems and forest roads are also interconnected to the logging methods. This paper is based on short log-lengths which are logs in random lengths between 3 and 6 m. Four truck transportation systems are discussed. The payloads varies from 5 to 40 tons and the overall lengths from 10 to 22 m. The mobility of the transportation systems decreases when the payload increases. The required road width on curves increases when the payload increases. The fuel consumption per payload unit decreases when the payload increases. Three main classes and nine sub classes of forest truck roads are described with technical specifications. In conclusion the paper stresses the need for a balanced optimilization of forest road standards and truck transportation systems.
