Abstract
Mini-skidder have quickly become popular in forestry. In order to ascertain the applicability of the machines, basic data is required. The drawbar pull is an essential basic property for off-road transportation. The objective of this investigation was to determine to drawbar pull, and to demonstrate how the terrain properties affected the available drawbar pull of mini-skidder. The drawbar pull was determined by field measurements. One machine - The Iron Horse JH 125 - was used consistently in all of the test series. For comparison, some measurements were also carried out with the mini-skidders Combitrac and Iron Horse- Piraya. In planning this investigation different factors influencing the drawbar pull were identified. The factors were field vegetation on level ground, inclinations and obstacles. The main part of the investigation was carried out on level ground. Ten different types of level, bare ground conditions and three types of snow covered level ground were examined.
