Radio-active Phophorus has been applied to different parts of the rooting systems of some coniferous tree species to elucidate the role these parts play for the nutrition of the trees. Perliminary results show that the shallow roots take up nutrients most actively, but that the deeper parts of the rooting systems, especially tap roots, habe only little ambition to take up minerals and water. The position with old trees needs further investigation.
