The Bavarian seed-stand register lists those forest stands by species and area where forest-tree seed can be collected in the various provenance regions. It has to be assured that enough stands have been selected in order to provide the forest-tree seed market with sufficient seed of proper provenance and to span the time between harvests. The register makes the local, responsible forester aware of special tending and silvicultural practices he needs to carry out in maintaining the seed-stand. The register is the basis for carrying out seed collections for the 19 tree species covered by German forest tree seed regulations. On the basis of this register forest owners, forest districts, private and governmental seed dealing agencies carry out their cone crop forecast. The register provides private and governmental seed collectors with valuable information such as location, size and accessibility. Thus the seed-stand register is a valuable tool in the area of forest tree seed and plant production.
