Forest seeding and planting are closely connected with the scientific fields of genetics and breeding. To provide for an efficient implementation of scientific results in these fields into practical forestry of the Bavarian Institution for Seeding and Planting at Teisendorf (LASP) was founded on March, 15, 1964. The work is outlined in the article. 90 articles. 60 work manuals and 360 reports have been published; 33 seed orchards for 15 tree- species and 27 provenances have been established on ca. 65 ha. More than 1000 forestry students and many native and foreign guests were trained in the subjects of seeding and planting including an extension training program. At the same time the two operations (seed extraction plants and nurseries) of the Institution provided the State Forest and private enterprises with provenance assured and site-adapted seeds and plants. The organizational structure of the institution and its two operations which are situated immediately under the jurisdiction of the Bavarian Forest Ministry has proven to be very beneficial.Furthermore thetasks in regenerating the forests have to be done with foresight in a practicable and economic way. Special efforts are made to preserve genetic diversity which will lead to employing biotechnical techniques in progeny testing.
