The effects of nitrogen fertilizer on contributions of basal area increment and height increment to volume increment are examined for Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco). Results indicate that volume growth rate on fertilized stands of a given site index is not proportionately distributed as one might expect for unfertilized stands of higher site index.
